KARACHI: The Sindh excise and taxation (E&T) department on Friday formed a four-member committee to look into complaint filed by North Korea’s embassy in Islamabad that some officials of the department had assaulted a senior diplomat and his wife inside their home in Karachi.
E&T Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said the team would investigate the matter and submit a report to him within a fortnight.
The team would be headed by director excise Muhammad Aamir Jameel while Deputy Directors Riaz Hassan Khoso and Karim Dad Abbassi and E&T officer Kaleemullah Wassan would be its members, he said.
“This is a very serious issue and we would not leave any stone unturned to reach the exact situation and truth. The inquiry team has been asked to complete the job within 15 days,” he said
According to the complaint, about 10 armed men from the E&T department burst into the diplomat’s Karachi home on April 9 and attacked him and his wife. They dragged the woman by the hair and hit the couple in the face before aiming guns at them, the complaint said.
The complainant claimed to have CCTV footage of the incident, which the officials believed would make the probe team’s job easier
