LAHORE: Police arrested a man for selling child pornography on the Internet. The accused told interrogators that he lured over 25 children into the act on the false ruse of giving them computer education.
Saadat Amin, 45, was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency’s cyber crime wing on Tuesday. His computer and laptop were also taken into custody.
The agency also obtained his five day physical remand from the FIA magistrate, on Wednesday.
FIA cyber crime head Deputy Director Shahid Hasan labeled this as “first of its kind” scandal in this country.
According to one of the investigators, Assistant Director Asif Iqbal, Amin had been selling child pornography on the Internet for a few years now. He would lure children by giving them hope of imparting computer education to them and also paid the families of the victims some Rs 3000 to Rs 5000 saying that their children would learn computer skills at his one room rented workshop in Sargodha.
The agency first probed into the matter on being informed by the Norwegian Embassy through a letter that a man had been arrested associated with child pornography and that Saadat Amin was his accomplice in Pakistan, after which the agency was able to track down Saadat Amin.
Saadat, a graduate of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Taxila Campus, lived in Malak Wal, Mandi Bhauddin. He moved to Sargodha later where he started his pornography business.
During an interrogation Saadat revealed that he got connected to a man named James from Norway who offered him money in exchange of child pornographic videos. James paid him something between a $100 to $400 for videos including young boys.Saadat also confessed to hacking pornographic videos from Russian and Bangladeshi porn sites and used to sell those to James too.
According to Mr. Iqbal, the FIA has recovered over 65,000 pornographic videos from Amin’s possessions. Iqbal says that the suspect isan excellent internet hacker and has associations with some policemen too, who often used him to prepare criminal records.
FIA is approaching the families of the victims for further evidence and is also looking for any accomplices that Amin might have had.
